–If you’ve been driving around Algona lately and have noticed some of the holiday decorations looking brighter than you remember, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. Algona Municipal Utilities and the City of Algona have partnered to purchase 60 new LED streetlight decorations.
The purchases were made as many of the city’s decorations are at least 25-years-old, and beginning to show their age. Officials with the city and AMU say the older decorations will still be used, as long as they can be maintained properly.
City officials say they plan to add newer decorations each year, expanding the areas where they are placed. Currently the holiday decorations have been placed on State Street, Call Street, Nebraska Street, and some of the side streets from Hall to Jones.
The new decorations are also easier to maintain in the cold and windy conditions of a North Iowa winter.
