Garner Man Now Charged in Fatal Crash from June

–A Garner man has been taken into custody in Palo Alto County, and is being charged with vehicular homicide in connection to a June crash near Cylinder that claimed the life of an Algona man. 

According to the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested 45-year-old Brian Michael Freeman Tuesday night on charges of Homicide by Vehicle-Operating Under the Influence, a Class B Felony. Freeman has also been charged with Driving on the Wrong Side of Two-Way Highway, a Simple Misdemeanor.  

The charges come as the result of an investigation into a 2-vehicle accident on June 12th, that claimed the life of 26-year-old Landon Schiek. The accident report stated that Freeman’s 2011 Chevy Silverado crossed the centerline and collided head on with Schiek’s Chevy Trailblazer. 

Schiek was pronounced dead at the scene, while Freeman was taken by Air Ambulance to MercyOne Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. 

Freeman was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail and was unable to post the $25,000 cash only bond.
