–The Construction Technology Program at Iowa Lakes Community College received an assortment of new tools Monday, after winning an online contest with a contractor from Illinois that has over a million subscribers on YouTube. Kyle Stumpenhorst is the owner of Rural Renovators Buildings out of Franklin Grove, Illinois and he uploads all sorts of building projects to his YouTube channel to help anyone from another contractor to the do-it-your-self person at home. Stumpenhorst tells KLGA News he wanted to do something special as his YouTube Channel recently reached a milestone.

Stumpenhorst says he wanted the “One in a Million Tool Giveaway” to be more than just a submit your name, draw a winner kind of contest.

Stumpenhorst received over 2,500 videos as part of the contest, with the ILCC video selected as one of the finalists before eventually being voted on as the winner by his subscribers. The prize package of brand-new tools includes anything and everything the students may need to use while completing their projects.

Stumpenhorst says he is glad the tools went to a trade school program, as he says these students will be in demand when they graduate.

Corey Menning is the Program Coordinator for the Construction Technology Program at Iowa Lakes, and submitted the videos for the contest. This year Menning and his students are taking on their biggest project to date, constructing a duplex for the Emmetsburg Community Development Corporation. Seven Full-Time first year students and three career academy high school students have completed the framing of the walls and will soon be sheathing those walls and installing roof trusses.
