Investigation Underway Following Officer Involved Shooting in Algona

–The investigation continues into an officer involved shooting early Thursday morning at an Algona motel.

According to the Algona Police Department, Officers were called to the Super 8 Motel around 12:15 AM Thursday for a reported disturbance. As a result of circumstances upon arrival, one officer discharged his firearm.

A high-speed chase then ensued with the suspect, which ended when the driver lost control of his vehicle. No officers were injured as a result of the incident, while the condition of the suspect has not been released.

At the request of the Kossuth County Attorney’s office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the  shooting. When the investigation is completed, the findings will be forwarded to the county attorney’s office.

The Algona Police Department was assisted by the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Kossuth County Attorney’s Office.
