Minnesota Pair Apprehended in Kossuth County

–A pair of Minnesota men have been arrested in Kossuth County after trying to elude law enforcement near the Iowa border Saturday morning .

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, a call for assistance came in from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office around 7:45 AM Saturday, as they were attempting to stop a van that was pulling a trailer and headed into Kossuth County. Martin County authorities had probable cause to believe the occupants of the vehicle were involved in the theft of property.

The vehicle, described as a Green Chrysler Van, pulled into a vacant farm site on 510th Street, just east of 30th Ave. This is a gravel road on the border of Iowa and Minnesota. Deputies observed two males flee the van, at which point one of them was caught and detained. The other male fled into a thick grassy area of CRP Ground west of the Burt Lake Campground and Wildlife Area.

At this time, Deputies from Kossuth County, including K9 Deputy Niko, arrived at the scene and set up a perimeter. Niko tracked the second suspect’s scent, finding him hiding in some thick cover.

The suspects have been identified as 30-year-old Layne Boettcher and 35-year-old Dustin Reinhart, both from Blue Earth.

Boettcher is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trespassing and Fraudulent Practice in the 4th Degree.

Reinhart is being charged with Operation of a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License and Trespassing. Both were booked into the Kossuth County Jail and could face charges in Minnesota.

The trailer was discovered to be stolen out of Minnesota. It was seized by Martin County Deputies.
