Fire Destroys Algona Home

–No injuries were reported after a fire leveled a home on the north side of Algona Saturday afternoon.

Algona Fire Chief Mitch Ulrick tells KLGA News that the fire was reported around 12:20 PM Saturday, and his department was on the scene five minutes later. By that time though, the home was fully engulfed by flames, with fire shooting out the roof and 3 sides of the building.

As firefighters battled the blaze, the structure became unstable, making it unsafe for anyone to remain inside or on the roof. Ulrick says at that point, they called Reding’s Gravel and Excavating to help bring the building down so the flames could be extinguished safely.

The female occupant of the home was able to make it out on her own, and a neighbor helped the male occupant escape the blaze.

Ulrick says they’re not sure what started the fire or where it began in the home.

Firefighters from Algona spent nearly four hours at the scene, with assistance from the Burt Fire Department.
