Lone Rock Man Cited for Animal Abuse

–A Kossuth County man is facing a charge of Livestock Abuse after Law Enforcement removed cattle from his property late last month.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to a report of cattle on the roadway at an address 5 miles north of Lone Rock back on September 29th. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the cattle at 3507 70th Avenue, and a building site a half mile north of that address, were being neglected of necessary sustenance. The owner of the cattle has been identified as Steve Fischer.

The Sheriff’s office rescued 85 head of cattle, pursuant to Iowa Code section 717.5, by relocating them to another cattle operation within Kossuth County.

The Kossuth County Attorney has filed a petition for disposition of neglected livestock, with a court hearing scheduled for October 25th at 10:45 AM in Kossuth County District Court. The hearing will determine if the livestock meet statutory criteria for “neglected livestock” and assess costs for maintenance of the animals while in the care of local authorities.

Fischer has been cited for Livestock Abuse due to failing to provide consistent care and depriving them of necessary sustenance, causing injury or death to the livestock. The charge is a serious misdemeanor.

Fischer has a court date scheduled for December 8th.
