–An Algona teen was uninjured following a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning north of Whittemore.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, someone notified Deputies of a vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of HWY 15 and County Road B30 early Sunday morning. When Deputies responded, they found a 2007 Toytota Camry had entered the ditch and struck a utility pole, but nobody was in the vehicle or around the area when they arrived.

As a part of the investigation, Deputies learned the registered owner lived in Algona, at which time they requested the Algona Police Department make contact. Algona PD spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who stated his grandson had fallen asleep while driving home around 4:30 AM and went into the ditch.

Deputies cited 17-year-old Trevon Erick Smith of Algona for failure to maintain control. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000 while damage to the utility pole, owned by Iowa Lakes Utility, was unknown at the time of the report.
