Hunter Education Course

A Hunter Education Course has been scheduled for this spring. The Course will meet at the following times:

Tuesday, April 9th 6-9 PM @ Water’s Edge Nature Center
Thursday, April 11th 6-9 PM @ Water’s Edge Nature Center
Saturday, April 13th 8-3 PM @ Izaak Walton League across from Smith Lake.

To receive certification, participants must attend all three sessions. The class is offered to anyone 12 years of age, or older, free of charge. The course will cover firearm handling and safety, wildlife management, survival, and various other topics. Live shooting will be offered as part of the class. The course is sponsored by the Kossuth County Conservation Board. Pre-registration is required for the course. To register students may click on the Hunter Education Class link on the

Algona Recreation 17th Annual AHS & BGHS Alumni Basketball Tournament

Team registrations are currently being accepted for the 17th annual Algona High School and Bishop Garrigan High School Alumni Basketball Tournament. It will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, March 29, 30, 31st at the Algona High School and Middles School Gyms. The tournamet is open to all Algona and Bishop Garrigan Alumni. Both Men’s and Women’s Divisions are available. The entry fee is $140 per team, which will benefit both AHS and BGHS athletic booster clubs. Entry deadline is Wednesday, March 20th.

Lone Rock Presbyterian Churches Lenten Suppers

The first Lenten supper will be today at 5PM at the Lone Rock First Presbyterian Church.
Following a time of fellowship and supper those attending will be viewing Ray Vanderlann’s Video Series, that was filmed int he holy land, “the Way of the Cross.” Following each video there will be a brief time of discussion.
“Everyone is cordially invited to attend any or all of these suppers. These videos are a wonderful way to help you observe the season of Lent.” Said Pastor Walt Reemtsma. A free will offering will be taken to offset the cost of the meals.
