Crooks Leads Bishop Garrigan to State Semifinals

Bishop Garrigan is on their way to the state semifinals, following a hard-fought 48-42 win over the Springville Orioles.

The game was a grind most of the way for both teams, as the final score marked the lowest offensive output for the Golden Bears since the 10th game of last season.  Bishop Garrigan was never able to fully put the game away until the end, as the team struggled to make 3 pointers, going 2/17 from downtown, and not making a 3 after the first quarter.  The Golden Bears were also bit by the turnover bug, committing 24 throughout the course of the game.

In a slow offensive game, the team was able to turn to sophomore Audi Crooks for the majority of the team’s production.  Crooks posted a stat line of 25 points on 12/13 shooting with 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.  Crooks and the rest of the Golden Bears were able to contain Springville leading scorer Lauren Wilson, holding her to 13 points on 5/16 shooting, also causing Wilson to commit 8 of Springville’s 21 turnovers.  Crooks helped Bishop Garrigan hold a 26-12 edge on points in the paint.

For the game, Springville shot 26% from the field and 25% on 3s.

Sophomore Molly Joyce scored 13 points in the game, 8 of which came from free throws, almost all of which came down the stretch in the 4th quarter as the Golden Bears closed out the game.

Bishop Garrigan advances to the semifinals on Friday to face Exira-EHK, who defeated MMCRU 60-55 yesterday, and is undefeated with a record of 24-0.  The game will be at 2 p.m.
