Thursday’s Area Scoreboard: Algona Splits With Pocahontas Area

–Algona turned a one point halftime deficit into a nine point win behind senior Noah Nelson’s 31 point effort.  Nelson hit seven three pointers, six coming in the second half.  Seniors Kyle Simpson and James Wartick, and junior Tyler Manske all hit double digits as well.  The win for the Bulldogs marked their ninth victory in the past ten games.  Up next for Algona is a matchup with Iowa Falls Alden tonight.

-North Union’s 4th quarter rally fell a bit short, as the Warriors dropped to 1-11.  Senior Gage Madden scored 24 points in the loss.  The Bison picked up their third win in a row to improve to 7-6.

-The Indians used a strong fourth quarter to improve to 8-6, as the Indians outscored the Cardinals 18-9 in the final period.  The game was dominated by defense, as the teams combined to shoot 29% from the field and just under 16% on 3s.  Senior Noah Miller led the way for the Indians with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  The Cardinals dropped to 11-3 , ending a three game winning streak.

After taking a 7 point lead at the end of the first quarter, Algona gave up a 14-0 scoring run in the second, and Pocahontas Area never looked back on their way to a win.  Up next for Algona is a matchup with Iowa Falls-Alden tonight at 6:15.

North Union used a 27-2 scoring margin in the 2nd quarter to take a 36 point halftime lead and blow the game open.  Senior Vanessa Von Bank scored 20 in the win.

-The Cardinals picked up their 4th win in their past 5 games in a back and forth contest that saw junior Liz Richardson lead the Cardinals with 16 points and 9 rebounds.   Senior Morgan Ryerson added 15 for the victorious Cardinals.

-Jake Zabka, Hayden Thompson, Brandon Harris, Hunter Berry, and Logan Meendering all went 2-0 on the night for Algona.
