First Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine Given in Kossuth County
–The first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given to Kossuth County Healthcare workers this week.
According to Kossuth Regional Health Center, the first vaccine clinic was conducted on Monday, with more scheduled this week and into January. Employees who provide direct patient care and those who spend long periods of time near people who have tested positive or are suspected to be positive are eligible to receive the vaccine at this time.
Health care and Emergency Medical Personnel who are eligible to receive the vaccine have been notified by public health officials via email to set up a time to receive their vaccine. Long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes and assisted living centers, are also included in this first round of vaccines.
Local health officials say they will be notified by the Iowa Department of Public Health when vaccine distribution can expand to additional groups. The COVID-19 vaccine is likely to be more widely available for public use by spring or summer of 2021.
