Council Approves Plans for EMS Facility Upgrade

–The Algona City Council awarded a construction contract to upgrade the living space for EMS staff during their meeting last week. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden spoke to council about the need to expand that area.

The project will renovate a conference room near the EMS garage at Kossuth Regional Health Center and convert it into sleeping quarters and a living area. Tjaden says the renovation will help staff members who are spending extended periods of time in the facility.

Tjaden says they looked at all the amenities staff will need not only now but in coming years.

Construction should begin in early January and be completed by the end of February. The contract with Becker Construction is for just over $105,000, and passed on a vote of 4-2, with Mike Sabin and Brooke Sudol voting against.
