Supervisors Hold Public Hearing, Approve Wind Project

–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors gave final approval to the Ledyard Windpower proposal for a wind-farm in the NE corner of the county following a public hearing Tuesday evening in Bancroft. County Engineer Doug Miller went over project plans for those in attendance Tuesday evening.

Miller says all of the turbine sites are compliant with the county’s wind energy ordinance.

Attendance was capped at a maximum of 70 for the meeting at the Summit Center, but many more were able to monitor the proceedings online via Zoom or through a conference call. The project will generate 206 megawatts of electricity on an annual basis, and the supervisors have stated they will not entertain any more requests for wind projects following its approval. The board voted 4-1 to approve the final application for the Wind Energy Conversion System, with Galen Casey voting against. The county’s wind energy ordinance states that the Supervisors shall approve the application if the project has met all the guidelines and requirements that have been laid out in the ordinance.
